Bliss...

It took me six months to finish this page. I started a new version every month for the past six months and I even have two completely finished alternate versions of this page underneath my drawing table. Suffice to say, I had a bit of a creative block...

Whenever I refer to my web comic, I always call it "the experiment" because I experiment with each new strip, tinkering with my art style, medium, type of paper, image size, character design, etc. almost every time I sit down to begin work. When I started working on this strip, I had been considering going to a more traditional comic book style instead of the comic strip presentation I started with. After one of my readers suggested I do so for more space for the artwork, I went ahead and designed the page like a comic book page. Unfortunately, I had scripted it as a strip and ended up having to add additional dialogue and Monique's internal monologue at the last minute. To this day when I look at the original sketches, it amazes me how much I added to this strip on the actual drawing board.

The dialogue is a bit melodramatic, but this is still one of my favorite strips. I think it may be because of the expressions of the characters and how happy I was that I managed to depict them well.

This and the first Fallen Angels strip were created on the same day. I began work on the two strips at work and actually completely penciled both in a sketch notebook I kept at work. When I brought the art work home, I decided to start over from scratch because I thought the strips I did at my job looked cramped and rushed. I submitted the strips to Keenspace soon after.
